Come join us in Zambia in May 2019!!
Natemwa Learning Center-- Kachele New Jerusalem Village
North of Lusaka, Zambia
May 14 - 28, 2019
We are thankful for our relationship with the Lilly Endowment and their Religion Division's Campus Ministry Theological Exploration of Vocation (CMTEV) initiative. As a part of our program we host a travel experience that will elevate our focus on our understanding of a Christian understanding of vocation. What we have found to work so well is sharing in life in a community that naturally gives space for the big questions like: Who am I? What am I called to do in the world? Where is God at work in the world and in my life? How is Christ calling me to be in lifelong community and engagement with others?
This year we will be traveling to Zambia to be with one of our partners whose work and ministry is supported by the Global Outreach Committee at University Presbyterian Church. Kathy Harding can almost be described as a mystic somewhere close to the line of the Mother Theresa's of our time who have poured themselves into a people that proclaims the Gospel in a powerful way. Kathy lives half the time in Lusaka (the capital city of Zambia) and in the village north of Lusaka, Kachele/ New Jerusalem.
"Natemwa Learning Centre is a large rural community school, deep in the heart of Zambian bush. It is located within The New Jerusalem Kachele village, which was founded to support and improve the lives of those who suffer from leprosy and their families. It was set up in 2000 by the Zambian charity National Agenda for Social Advancement (NASAD) and the carefully developed community is built on 500 acres of land. Instrumental in Kachele’s creation, and the driving force of the village and school, is Mrs Kathleen Harding MBE. Kathy's dedication to the village is clear by her choice to live half of the week at the village in an old caravan."
"Natemwa Learning Centre is a primary school for the wider community with 177 children from grades 1 - 6. The children walk from the surrounding 10 villages to study at the school. The only alternative is to walk to the nearest government school which is 15km away and has around 60 children per class."
